Chicken Salad with Grapes and Pecans

I’m pretty picky when it comes to my chicken salad. I ask what’s in it before I order it at restaurants and you’ll never see me buying any of that premade crapola from a store. I’m always willing to try someone else’s recipe, but (not to go telling tales out of school) I like my chicken salad best. I have a secret ingredient that gives my recipe a little kick.  I betcha can’t guess what it is!

{I first published this recipe in 2013 on my old website. I had to bring it back on accounta I love it so!}

Blackberry Dump Cake

I generally don’t want to eat anything with the word “dump” in the name. That’s all kinds of gross and no. I’ll make an exception for this easy peasy cake featuring blackberries.

I love, love, love blackberries. The picking season brings back some of my happiest childhood memories. Although a wild blackberry bush grows at the very edge of my property, on the other side of the fence as you enter the woods, I purchase blackberries when they’re in season. Basil Pesto Hummus

My family calls hummus “bean dip.” Roasted red pepper hummus is red bean dip. Basil pesto hummus is green bean dip. I know. Bless. Whatever they call it, hummus is a favorite here. We snack on it with pita chips and make fantastic sandwiches and roll-ups. Spread some on top of grilled chicken and you’ve got yourself some yummlies.

Not My Grandmom’s Mac & Cheese

 My Grandmom’s macaroni and cheese has been a part of my family’s holiday supper lexicon for as long as I’ve had a family. This was one of the few things the old broad made well. Seriously, y’all. My brothers and sisters used to call her mashed potatoes “Eleanor’s Glue.” Bless. But her mac and cheese was the stuff of legend- tried, true, and delicious. We looked forward to it when we were little kids and each of us carried the recipe to our own supper tables. Y’all probably have recipes like this as well, don’t you? We honor our loved ones every time we prepare them.

Quick and Easy Goddess Salsa

   It’s not summer time, y’all, but any time of year is a good time for salsa. Especially THIS salsa! My friend, Laurie, used to make this way, way back in the day. I remember when I first tried it, I thought she was some kind of salsa making wizard. When she told me how simple it is to make, I couldn’t believe it!
  The best recipes are the ones we can adapt to our personal preferences. I look at recipes as guidelines, you know? Inspiration. A jumping off point into culinary magic. Feel free to do the same here. You can thank me later, friends. Well, thank Laurie. She’s the original salsa goddess. Peace, B.
PS
Look for the “pro tips” for making and using Goddess Salsa in the post!
